Can vertigo be treated or cured? Vertigo is a symptom associated with multiple brain and inner-ear disorders, many of them treatable and possibly curable, said Dr. Dara G. Jamieson, associate professor of clinical neurology at Weill Cornell Medical College.
While Changes - Olivia Newton-John - If You Love Me Let Me Know can be experienced as a spinning sensation similar to riding a merry-go-round, Dr. Jamieson said, it more commonly feels like being on a small boat in a stormy Merry - Go - Round - Gastones - Would You Like Some.
There may be an overlap between vertigo and dizziness or lightheadedness. Transient vertigo is a common, generally benign experience, she said, but if episodes are frequent or severe, then an evaluation by a neurologist, an ear specialist, or both is appropriate.
If vertigo comes on suddenly with a particular head position, Dr. Jamieson said, it may be benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, which can be cured with certain exercises or may resolve on its own.
While there is no specific cure, medications and diet may decrease the frequency and severity of attacks. Troubling vertigo may occur during or between migraine headaches. Medication to decrease the frequency and severity of the headaches may reduce the vertigo. Vertigo due to a tumor in the brain or ear is generally accompanied by other neurological symptoms. Vertigo that comes on suddenly could be a symptom of a stroke, usually with other symptoms like headacheweakness, difficulty walking or speaking, or a change in vision.
