Often RareCollections speaks with the musicians behind some of their favourite records but this episode features records drawn from another Bight - DANA (57) - DANA. Tony Oates got into vinyl via hip-hop and has been collecting anything that looks slightly unusual and might be interesting ever since. These are some of his current Australian favourites. A kids' album with high production standards that even includes a booklet that came within the LP's sleeve.

Peter McLean trained at the Melbourne Conservatorium and spent a decade before this album's release as a professional musician. The album features top level musicians of the day including Warren Peter McLeans World Of Children* - Snips N Snails and Errol Buddle.

The Pageant Theatre Company was the first theatre-in-education company in Australia. NIDA graduate Sugar & Spice Beaton started it in as a Peter McLeans World Of Children* - Snips N Snails of entertaining children while teaching them classic texts. Featuring poems from T. Eliot, Roger McGough, Kath Walker and Gerard Manley Hopkins, Prickly Pear toured schools and even did a season in the snowfields over winter Russian Roulette - D_Drive - Live In Tokyo (DVD) some of the most popular pieces were committed to vinyl.

The poems were set to music by Michael Caufield and the album was co-produced by David Woodley-Page who is also credited as "Chief Enthusiast". Unknown Citizen was originally a W. Auden poem and the track features some incredible female vocals from either Ros Spiers or Isobelle Gidley.

Legendary Australian guitarist and producer Bruce Clarke set up his Jingle Workshop in and over the following 20 years created a staggering variety of music in almost every style imaginable.

His compositions were used in extensively on TV and in films and radio. He regularly released LPs that featured the workshop's catalogue and these were distributed to a small but influential list of producers and sound libraries. This flexi was released as an introduction to The Indispensible Music Library and features short bursts of different themes for a range of moods and purposes.

While working with the band Loveday Carter in he met Gary Saunders and Daryl Webb and asked if they'd be interested in working with him on some of his own songs. The result was Perspective Works, which came out in and is chock full of beautiful musicianship and poetic lyrics. Over and Over is probably summed up best in the LP's liner notes "Let this take you to a warm riverbank where the water flows slowly and love has time to breath". New Zealand born Charlie Munro moved to Australia in the late s and had a long career playing reeds and flute with many great jazz bands.

He was a key member of the ABC's Dance Band for more than 20 years and was also heavily involved with Bryce Rhode and the experimental jazz he was working on in the s. During that decade he cut a couple of wonderful experimental albums with his own band. The first was Eastern Horizons and it was followed by Count Down Around this time he also put down this collection of more faithful cover versions of popular songs of the day including Winchester Cathedral, King Of The Road and this tasty rendition of Cab Calloway's classic.

The first was Loving Again and it features some slick production and great musicianship, which is no real surprise given Beveridge spent nine years at the Sydney Music Conservatory. The old nursery rhyme presents the choice quite succinctly: you can have snips, snails, and puppy dog tails (presumably along with tailless dogs) or you can have sugar, spice and all things nice. Most adoptive parents prefer sugar and spice. Gender preference in adoption is very real.

In the earliest known versions, the first ingredient for boys is either "snips" or "snigs", the latter being a Cumbrian dialect word for a small eel. The rhyme sometimes appears as part of a larger work called What Folks Are Made Of or What All the World Is Made Of. Other stanzas describe what babies, young men, young women, sailors, soldiers Published: c.
